Starving

In a recent report, Human Rights Watch described the Israeli government's use of the collective starvation of civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip as a war crime. There have been reports of children dying due to starvation, especially in North Gaza. Palestinians have resorted to eating leaves and grass and in one case, a family had no choice but to eat their donkey in order to survive. It is important to note that since 2006, Israel has purposefully restricted the amount of food allowed into Gaza. Israeli government adviser Dov Weisglass was widely quoted as having said: "The idea is to put the Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger." Cutting off food from an area that is already intentionally starved is a unique cruelty that highlights the torture Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are subjected to.
