The Soul of My Soul

The name of this exhibit is “Soul of My Soul.” Our name comes from the renowned video of Khaled Nabhan who was bidding his granddaughter farewell after she was killed by an Israeli airstrike. As he gently stroked her face and hair, registering all the details to his memory before he buried her, he said “she was the soul of my soul.” As you walk through our exhibit, please keep in mind that each person who was killed by Israel was someone’s everything.

Following the murder of his grandchildren, Khaled Nabhan spent his days volunteering at the hospitals, counselling grieving parents, helping children who have become amputees come to terms, emotionally, with their loss of limbs, feeding stray animals, cleaning the common areas and streets and more.

Khaled spent his time after this incomprehensible loss of his family serving his people wherever he was needed.

On December 16, 2024, Khaled Nabhan was killed by an Israeli airstrike in Al Nuseirat refugee camp in southern Gaza.

Khaled’s tribute to his granddaughter Reem, the soul of his soul, motivated us, and others, to push ourselves to act for Palestine. He will never truly know the impact he’s had on this world - to the extent that perfect strangers in California named their advocacy group Soul of My Soul Exhibit.

Khaled Nabhan and his granddaughter Reem will always be at the heart of our work. His murder has hit us hard. Our work will continue; for all the Khaled Nabhans out there, for the ones whose stories we will never know.
