An estimated 25,000 children in Gaza are now orphans, according to the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.  Healthcare workers in Gaza were forced to create a new acronym unique to Gaza: WCNSF (Wounded Child; No Surviving Family). This acronym should never have to exist. Often, a young child who cannot communicate their name is brought to the hospital and can only be listed as “The Unknown Child.” Staff at the hospital then give the child a new name because they have no idea who they are. This reality should be unacceptable to all of us. The pain of Gaza’s orphaned children is undeniable and incomprehensible.
