Every day, 10 children undergo amputation of at least one leg in Gaza, according to Save the Children. Unfortunately, amputations are not an uncommon occurrence in Gaza. In fact, Gaza has an amputee soccer team which was founded in 2021 and a paracycling team which was founded in 2020. In 2018-2019, Palestinians in Gaza gathered every Friday at the 20 feet tall concrete wall separating them from the rest of the world. They were peacefully protesting the Israel-imposed blockade on Gaza that has been in place since 2006. Israeli army snipers would compete over how many knees they could shoot in a day, with one soldier bragging that he took out “42 knees in a day.”
